Get To Know Your Pelvic Floor Workshop

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH from 1PM-3PM

  • Learn about the pelvic floor and issues that can arise from pelvic floor dysfunction. We will start with an anatomy discussion and common (but not normal) symptoms associated with pelvic floor dysfunction. Next there will be a Q&A session, followed by a 60-90min asana practice.

    The asana portion will start with grounding, regulating the nervous system and bringing awareness to the breath. We will then warm up with some stretching and lengthening postures before moving into some strengthening exercises. We will discuss and practice alignment cues for certain postures and learn how to stabilize and support the pelvic floor while in these postures. We finish the workshop with some nervous system regulating poses and meditation.

    • Learn how the emotional, mental and physical body keep score in the body

    • Learn how to release blockages stored in the pelvis and hip region

    • Develop awareness of your body and breath

    • Individualized attention to your specific needs

    • Understand proper alignment and posture modifications

    • Hands-on adjustments, posture modifications, and pelvic stability

    • Women & anyone born with a uterus interested in learning more about pelvic floor health

    • Those with any issues related to the pelvic floor ie: incontinence, organ prolapse, chronic constipation, pelvic pain, low back pain, tight hips/hamstrings, hypermobility etc

    • Incontinence- stress and/or urge

    • Organ prolapse

    • Menopause

    • Pelvic pain- interstitial cystitis, anal pain, pain with intercourse, 

    • Low back pain

    • Chronic constipation

    • Sciatica/pyriformis pain

    • Tight hamstrings/hips

    • Hypermobility

ABOUT SHANNON

Shannon is an RYT 500, specialized in pelvic floor yoga, yoga hikes and forest bathing.  Shannon incorporates the healing powers of nature to help her students reconnect to the self, to ground, and to feel safe in their bodies. Shannon’s goal in teaching yoga is to help her students come home to the self and to regain control over their own bodies, bodily functions and emotions through yoga asana, pranayama and meditation.  Shannon is also a nurse and practitioner of yoga for over 14 years. She loves teaching about the anatomy and the mind/body/spiritual connection that often gets separated into different entities creating further disconnect.
